Touring Tips

It’s hard to think of a better reason to own a touring bike than a touring trip! These longer rides take some planning and forethought to get the most out of them, so start by planning out your route. Picking your path in advance helps you get the best hotel deals, build every tourist stop into your route, and makes it easy to plan those necessary breaks. Taking the time for a pre-ride check will reduce the chance you encounter any mechanical problems on the road. This involves checking key parts of your bike to ensure they’re ready to handle the long ride ahead. The hope is to catch any issues now rather than traveling at a high speed or being far from a mechanic. Check your tire pressure to make sure it’s in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendation. Examine your tread to ensure it’s not too worn down. Test your signal lights, brake lights, and headlights for visibility. Make sure to fill up any low fluids, like oil and brake fluid.
