Strength Training

You’re going to engage a variety of muscles when riding your bike. You should focus on targeted workouts to improve your stamina and get in shape for your trips. As you build up your strength, you’ll find it easier to ride and you’ll be less sore after long trips.

Legs

You’re going to rely on your legs a lot, so it’s important to get this part of your body in shape! Your legs are responsible for getting in the proper body position, controlling your bike, and supporting your machine at a stop. Strengthening your legs will improve your endurance and stability. Consider doing squats, lunges, and leg presses.

Core

Your core helps you move through the world. It is the support for your body, so it’s important to do some core strengthening to stay in motorcycle riding shape. If you don’t engage your core while on your bike, you may compensate by supporting yourself with other muscles that will get sore. Do some Russian twists, planks, and sit-ups to strengthen your core.

Upper Body 

Your upper body is another part of your body you’ll need to get in shape for riding your bike. This includes your upper back and shoulders since these help you control the handlebars and maintain control of your vehicle. These muscles can tire easily while riding. Do some pull-ups, bicep curls, tricep press downs, and Supermans.

Flexibility

You may associate flexibility with sports like gymnastics, but it’s useful for motorcycle riding too! You need some flexibility to maintain the correct posture, reach the controls, and more. If you lack flexibility, your muscles may end up sore as you try to contort them to where you need them to be. Try getting in shape by doing foam rolling, pigeon stretches, and hip stretches.

Endurance

One more way to get in shape for traveling on your bike is to improve your endurance. Low endurance levels can lead to fatigue which compromises your focus and in turn impedes your safety. Try out some other athletic activities to build up your aerobic endurance. Ride a bicycle, climb stairs, head out on a hike, or go for a run!
